The hardest part of any adventure is the first step
It’s true. The hardest part of any adventure is getting started, making a plan, and sending it. This is the message we are trying to spread through the community of Know Nothing Nomads. We hope by equipping people with knowledge, guidance, and inspiration our readers will take the leap into a life full of adventure and fulfillment in the Great Outdoors.
This is the
Know Nothing Nomads Adventurer Series
At the heart of Know Nothing Nomads are two people that wanted more adventure and purpose in their lives. We were tired of making excuses about why we couldn’t do something and live the dream we wanted.
After we made the commitment to a life of adventure, we have met some amazing people, seen some incredible places, and come to one huge realization.
The craving for adventure isn’t some otherworldly desire, in fact almost everyone feels this way.
But the biggest limiting factor is telling yourself that you can’t do it for one reason or another; deciding that something is impossible before you even try.
And the best way we found to overcome these feelings is learning about people that have done it before, which leads us to right here and now.
“Things are pretty scary if you overthink it, but at the end of the day, stuff that scares you or makes you feel uncomfortable helps you grow.”
– MICHAEL LONGO, TransAmerica Trail 2022

What is the Adventurer series
This is a place for adventurers to share stories of their adventures
In its simplest form, the Adventurer Series is a compilation of interviews. Each interview features a “normal” person that went on an incredible adventure. The interview starts at where the came from and goes into why they chose to do what they did. Each story explores their personal journey, the highs, lows, and ends with advice and inspiration for you as the reader.
It is our hope that the Adventurer Series becomes a place where someone (maybe you?) can find the inspiration to commit to your “some day dream”. We want you to take the jump and do that thing you’ve always wanted to do.
This dream, what ever it may be, doesn’t have to be something massive like climbing Everest, or hiking across the country (although some of the people below did exactly that).
Each person we interviewed for our Adventurer Series has an extremely incredible, and individual story to tell. But, even though the interviews, adventures, and people below are all vastly different, they have one thing in common. They chose to go for it, no matter what.
Molley and the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT)
We only have this one life so make the most of it!
Molley and the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT)
Molley is an avid outdoor enthusiast who enjoys hiking, van life-ing, surfing, and skiing, and she’s currently training for her first half-marathon! In 2017, Molley thru-hiked the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) with her boyfriend (now husband) Matt. She loves spending time outside, but she hadn’t backpacked more than 40-ish miles before taking off on the PCT. In fact, Molley and Matt only had about a month to plan their adventure because it was such a last-minute decision.
Molley’s story is full of adventure, funny stories, and even some scary moments that forced Molley and Matt to reconsider their time in the Sierra Nevadas. Molley has a great perspective about their time spent on the trail and offers up some advice for PCT dreamers and fellow adventurers as well. Read on to learn more about Molley and you’ll see why she’s a featured adventurer here.
Michael & The TransAmerica Bike Route
It sounds cheesy, but if you put your mind to it, you’re capable of doing anything.
Michael & The TransAmerica Bike Route
In 2022, Michael rode his bicycle across the United States on the TransAmerica Trail. It took Michael 84 days to complete the route, which is approximately 4,200 miles and runs from Astoria, Oregon, to Yorktown, Virginia.
Before this ride, he hadn’t been on a bike for more than 10 miles in a single trip. This just goes to show his adventurous spirit, resilient attitude, and admirable perseverance that helped him complete this incredible adventure with no bike-packing experience.
In the interview below, you can learn more about Michael and how he got the idea to embark on this adventure, as well as some recommended resources for anyone interested in something like this. He also has some incredible life advice that we all need to hear, so continue reading to get inspired by a fellow adventurer.
